Day 9: Ministry Visit to AiG (Jun 18)

Great to see Ken Ham again after our last encounter in the first ever All-Asian Creation Conference in Malaysia 2011. He was giving a relevance talk in Legacy Hall (converted warehouse space).

Finally... Eunice had a chance to see the Creation Museum! However, this is just a "sneak-peek" because we are here only for a few hours to meet up with Steve Ham and David Chakranarayan to discuss a few Answers Academy related ministry topics. (Eunice still had to spend 3 hours in the morning attending her Camp Freedom online class - of which Carl Kerby is one of the speakers!).

It was pretty amazing that we bumped into Ray Comfort's son-in-law, "EZ" (Emeal Zwayne) from the Living Waters ministry. He was there to spend some personal leadership time with Ken Ham. We are there with some personal leadership time with Steve Ham.

David took us to the Ark Encounter design studios where all the planning, artwork and layout is done. It really blew our mind to see the level of throughness and professionalism that is at work in preparing towards the launch of the Ark Encounter in May 2016! To be able to touch and feel Biblical history is certainly a faith-building experience. This Ark Encounter project will certainly propel the ministry of Answers in Genesis to the next level!

We look forward to returning to the Creation Museum again July 6-7 together with Eliza! It is going to be a wonderful family visit plus also a sneak peek into the Ark Encounter.

Day7: Asbury and Campbellsville (Jun 16)

Drove about 2.5 hours for a 10am campus visit appointment at Asbury University. Too bad, Eliza could not join as she is still with the Media Prep team at the ICC training center.

The chapel at Asbury - built in the 1920s. Quite interestingly, that all the students in the same class will be seated together in the same section of the chapel and they will progress through different sections of the chapel as they progress through their years in the University.

The three-story library is well-equipped and Asbury has a link-up with the University of Kentucky in terms of sharing of resources. Saw a special section on CS Lewis when we were there.

Now, on to the "main meal" for the day - the Center for Communications Art. It officially opened to students in January of 2011. This 52,000 square foot building has been designed to immerse Asbury University students in creativity and innovation, as well as the past, present, and future of communication. We were surprised to see many displays of  television and radio memorabilia. There was even a production stage area with the shopfront from Citizen Kane. 

Asbury is the only university selected to be the broadcasting resource for the Summer Olympics. Each year, students in the Communications Department has opportunity to participate.

Next, we had a tour of the Women's Dorm. There are two types - (1) Dormitory style (2) Quad-sharing style. In either cases, there will be a room mate allocated. Advantage of quad is that it provides kitchen facilities, disadvantage - only one bathroom to be shared by 4 persons.

Ended the session with the Jared Miller, the International Enrollment Specialist - a former national tennis player for South Africa! We are glad to know that there are a few scholarship options available. By participating in their scholarship interview, can get at least 50% of the tuition fees taken care of. The room and board is separate at about $8,000/year. It will be even more amazing if can get the 100% tuition fee scholarship - but the competition is tough - only one awarded each year to a male or female - SAT Score of Maths and Critical Reading should be close to 1500 to stand a good chance for this superb scholarship.

Our next stop - about 1.5 hours away is Campbellsville University. However, we were not impressed with their Communications Department as the facilities are very basic and does not have the "major" emphasis which we expected. Scholarship-wise, they offer a standard $14,000 scholarship/year for international students.
